Why are most people againist PetSmart's care for the animals?

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

I mean, I'm a part of that team. I'm a Pet Care Specialist and that's my job there - is to care for the animals that we have. I don't get it why people think, "PetSmart cares horribly for their animals, go to an independently owned pet shop."

We do a good job in my opinions and the animals that come through are practically spoiled….Veggie cups, yogurt, nice fresh bedding every other day, food and water changed out everyday, a nice ER room to care for sick ones through veterinary care….

Why are people againist PetSmart?
If PetSmart worked with Puppy mills then why do we invite dog adoptions every Saturday and Sunday from shelters and rescues?
We also spend hundreds of dollars on animals that only cost a few….

We spent $500 to help a rat with blindness that came to our store.

It's ALL about making the money - of course, we're losing some.

People think all Pet Stores are associated with Puppy Mills, and in Pets Mart case, they are getting the bad end of the stick.

they do not allow the sale of dogs or cats, while other Pet Stores do, the people are uneducated as to how well Pets Mart does care for animals.

they will only allow adoptions from reputable organizations, and does not allow the sale of dogs, not even outside the store.

While Petco, allows the sale of dogs and cats every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, they allow the byb, Puppy MIlls to set up shop inside the store, and they sell the dogs anywhere from 100.00 up, and this is not an adoption organization at all, they are the breeders themselves…
\
and the dogs and cats are not neutered or spayed, while the adoption ones inside Pets Mart, the pets are already s/n if old enough, if puppy or kitten, they do make sure the baby does get s/n when it is suppose to.

So, people see this, and they automatically think that all pet stores allow this.

The pets at Pets Mart as you said are well taken care of and you as a part of this team are to be congradulated for helping make their little lives worth living…

And its not just Pets Mart they are against, it is the entire concept of it being a Pet Store…..it is a shame, they are #1 in the US for making sure dogs or cats are adopted out and not sold in any of their stores, and no other Pet Store can make this claim.

I wish people would investigate before bad mouthing a place, it just spreads and makes it hard to make people see, they are doing the right thing.

Keep up the good work Lucy, I know your little furry friends do appreciate the love and care you are giving them.

Thank you

what is the difference between vet medicine, surgery and vet science?

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

I don't really understand… what does a vet medicine person do? I swear that if ur a vet you get 2 do surgery and like care for animals. Also what is veterinary science?

In the UK the only people who can treat sick or injured animals legally are Veterinary Surgeons - they must be registered with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and the usual way of doing this is to have a degree recognised by the Royal College (though there are other ways mainly for foreign nationals) Only a few universities offer registrable degrees - Glasgow, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Nottingham, Cambridge, Bristol and London. Some degrees from other universities in other countries are also recognised eg Dublin, Ireland
The degrees these universities offer have different names - e.g. Veterinary Science, Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Medicine and Surgery but they all teach all the skills required for their graduates to practise as veterinary general practitioners. There are numerous post-graduate courses which allow vets to specialise in certain subjects e.g. surgery, medicine, ophthalmology (eyes) as human medics do.

Veterinary assistant vs Veterinary Technician?

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

I’m going for a job interview tomorrow for a Veterinary assistant but I’m not to sure on what this job entails. What exactly is the difference between a Vet assistant and a Vet Tech?? About how much on average is a Vet assistant paid?? Any information on being a Veterinary Assistant will be graciously appreciated.

To be a Vet. Tech requires college and a degree, to be a Vet. Assistant usually is on the job training. The job description is very different as Technicians are certified by the state. Pay depends on experience and location but usually don’t get paid that great.
